Christian Movie, TV, and Video Game Review Resources

Find Christian movie, TV, and video game review resources, plus practical questions to help your family make thoughtful entertainment choices.

A movie trailer or game advertisement rarely tells you everything you want to know. Before spending time or money on entertainment, it helps to check the content, consider the message, and think about who will be watching or playing. These resources can help you make informed choices for yourself and your family.

Philippians 4:8 reminds us to focus our thoughts on what is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. That gives us a helpful starting point for thinking about entertainment: What am I allowing to shape my thoughts, attitudes, and desires?

Additional Content and Age-Rating Tools

The following resources provide general age and content guidance. Their ratings do not evaluate entertainment according to a Christian worldview, so use them alongside biblical discernment.

ESRB Ratings Guide

The Entertainment Software Rating Board’s ratings guide explains video game age categories, content descriptions, and notices such as “Users Interact” and “In-Game Purchases.” Check these features as well as the age rating, especially when a game includes online interaction or purchases.

Common Sense Media

Common Sense Media provides age-based reviews of movies, television, games, apps, and other media. Its content summaries can be useful, but its values and recommendations may differ from your family’s convictions.

Questions to Ask Before You Watch or Play

  • What does the story present as good, admirable, funny, or worth pursuing?
  • How does it portray God, spiritual beliefs, sexuality, violence, and human dignity?
  • Is the content appropriate for this child’s age, maturity, and sensitivities?
  • For games, who can interact with the player, and what purchases or privacy settings need attention?
  • How much time will this take, and what might it crowd out?
  • Could we watch or play together and talk about the choices, consequences, and beliefs we notice?

A reviewer’s approval is one piece of information. Consider the details, your conscience, your family’s convictions, and what helps you follow Christ faithfully. Parents and grandparents can use these decisions to teach discernment through conversation and example.
