Have you ever looked back at your week and wondered where your time went? Life moves so fast that we often forget to be intentional with how we spend our days. Imagine an old man sitting in his rocking chair, reflecting on his life’s investments—not in stocks or property, but in people, in purpose, in things that truly mattered.
Jesus reminds us in Matthew 6:19-21 (NLT):
“Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.”
Pastor Chris shared, “I’ve seen people fill rooms with trophies of their accomplishments, only to have them gather dust. The things we chase today can easily lose their value tomorrow.” This truth challenges us to consider: Are we investing in temporary pursuits or in things of eternal value?
The way we use our time, talents, and treasures reveals what we truly value. Some people are afraid to step out in faith with what God has given them. In the Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25:14-30), Jesus commends those who invest and multiply what they have, but calls the one who buries his talent a “wicked and lazy servant.” Why? Because fear and complacency kept him from using his resources for God’s glory.
Pastor Chris noted, “We often say, ‘I’ll serve God when I have more time, more money, more energy.’ But that excuse just shifts as we age. If we don’t start now, we never will.” Instead of waiting for a “better time,” what if we saw today as our best opportunity to invest in God’s Kingdom?
Practical Application:
- Take an inventory of how you spend your time each day. What needs adjusting?
- Identify one talent you’ve been hesitant to use for God and find a way to start using it.
- Consider ways to give financially, even if it’s a small, consistent amount.
- Reach out to someone today and encourage them in their faith.
- Pray for God to reveal opportunities to serve Him more fully.
Prayer Prompts:
- Lord, help me invest in things that will last for eternity.
- Show me where I have been storing up treasures in the wrong places.
- Give me courage to use my gifts and resources for Your glory.
- Teach me to trust You with my time, talent, and treasure.
