In Romans 1:7, the apostle Paul writes, “To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be his holy people: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.”
Grace and peace. Two powerful gifts that only God can give. Grace is God’s unmerited favor—His love and acceptance extended to us not because of what we’ve done, but because of what Christ has done. Peace, in this context, isn’t about a life free from hardship. It’s about the deep, abiding calm that comes from knowing we are right with God through Christ’s sacrifice. It’s peace that holds steady in the storms of life.
In a past message, I shared a faith story from Chuck Norris that might surprise you. Yes, the action hero known for martial arts, movies, and Walker, Texas Ranger—he’s also a man of faith. Chuck’s testimony, featured in an article from MovieGuide, is filled with grace and peace. He talks about how his mom raised him in the Christian faith, how he gave his life to Christ at age 12, and how he returned to his faith after being pulled into the Hollywood lifestyle. His journey reminds us that no one is too tough to need God’s grace, and no one is beyond the reach of His peace. Chuck writes, “My wife Gina and I are Christians, and our faith is the primary anchor for our souls. It’s the one thing that offers us true peace, hope, and a remedy against fear, especially through hard times.” It’s a testimony worth hearing—and a reminder worth remembering.
Grace and peace are not just words to close a letter. They are gifts to receive and live out every day. And like Chuck Norris, each of us has a story to tell. If you haven’t already, maybe it’s time to reflect on your own faith story. How has God’s grace met you? Where has His peace sustained you?
