Where Is Your Treasure Really Stored? (Devotional)

1–2 minutes

Imagine working your whole life to save up for retirement, only to see the stock market crash and your savings vanish. It’s a harsh reality for many. But what if we spent our lives investing in something that could never be taken away?

Jesus said in Matthew 6:33 (NLT):
“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”

Pastor Chris shared, “I’ve seen people hoard their money, too afraid to give because they’re scared they won’t have enough. But I’ve also seen people give sacrificially and watch God bless them in ways they never expected.”

Many hesitate to give financially because they fear running out. But Jesus calls us to trust Him, to seek His Kingdom first, and to store up treasures in heaven. That means investing in people, in ministry, in things that make an eternal impact.

Pastor Chris reminded us, “Tithing isn’t about what God needs from us—it’s about what He wants for us. It teaches us to trust Him, to put Him first, and to experience His blessings.”

The principle of giving isn’t just about money. It’s about surrendering every resource—our time, talents, and finances—into God’s hands and trusting Him with the outcome. When we do that, we experience the joy of being part of something much greater than ourselves.

Practical Application:

  • Take an honest look at where you are investing your time, money, and energy.
  • Pray about increasing your generosity—whether through giving, serving, or mentoring.
  • Memorize Malachi 3:10 and take a step of faith in your giving.
  • Consider setting up automated giving to your church as a step of faithfulness.
  • Look for opportunities to bless someone in need this week.

Prayer Prompts:

  • God, help me trust You with my finances and resources.
  • Show me how to invest in things that have eternal value.
  • Teach me to give with a joyful heart, not out of obligation.
  • Help me be a good steward of all You have given me.
