4. For this reason disciples were spoken of as IMITATORS of their teachers.
- Stated by Jesus himself: the goal in being a disciple is to be like the teacher. “A student is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher.” Luke 6:40
- According to the apostle Paul, God’s goal in the redemption of mankind, that they be conformed to the image of His Son. “For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son…” Romans 8:29

B. To Put Jesus First in their lives
- 23 Then he said to them all: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. 24 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it. 25 What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self? Luke 9:23-25 (NIV)
C. To Endure Persecution
- In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,
- 2 Timothy 3:12 (NIV)
